Hello! I’m Laura, a UK Registered Dietitian and Health Writer

My journey into nutrition started almost 20 years ago. I’ve always had a passion for food and in my late teens I started training to be a chef. But a home economics class about the nutrients in an egg (and what they did in the body!) shifted my direction for the next decade. I got hooked on nutrition science! The fact that food can change the course of a disease or someone’s mental wellbeing is fascinating to me.

I went on to complete an undergraduate and Masters degree in human nutrition. After working in corporate healthcare, I went back to university to complete a postgraduate degree in dietetics, qualifying as a Dietitian in 2012.

I worked in the NHS and private healthcare for around three years before transitioning into freelance practice full time. Since then, I’ve worked with brands, individuals, and media, developing a knack for translating scientific jargon into engaging copy.

I have specialist experience in gut health (especially irritable bowel syndrome), RED-S, disordered eating and sports nutrition. My passion for food continues at home and work —the kitchen is my happy place. I’ve come to realise that building a happy, healthy relationship with food is not just about what we eat, but also why we eat. Understanding how a person’s environment, emotional wellbeing and resources affect food choices is an important part of the work I do.
